Welcome

Welcome to the webpage of "Surrey Drum Teacher" Tom Pybus.

Tom is a freelance musician and educator providing drum lessons privately at students' homes and within private/state/independent schools.

Here you will find information about Tom, the services that he provides, prices of lessons and the areas he will travel to.

 About

Tom’s obsession with drums began at the tender age of 4. After battering his way through many junior drum kits his mum decided it was time for him to step towards the real thing. He began studying with a local drum teacher developing his sense of rhythm, timing and musicality.

By the age of 14 Tom was in 2 bands and gigging regularly (much to the delight of his mum and dad who taxied him everywhere). At 16 he studied music for 2 years at a local FE college to develop his musicianship further. Within that period he attained Trinity Guildhall Drum Kit Grade 8, and also joined the Boston Youth Jazz Orchestra under the leadership of Lee Hextall. This helped him to develop skills such as sight reading and following a conductor whilst playing a wealth of different musical styles.

At the age of 18 Tom went to the Academy of Contemporary Music to study under drum teachers such as Pete Riley, Stu Roberts and Jon Duff. Those 4 years were invaluable to his progression as a player and Tom adopts similar approaches when teaching his own students.

Following college Tom continues to tour, record and perform all over the world and has developed a solid teaching regime at the same time. Tom currently teaches privately at students’ homes and within private/state/independent schools whilst maintaining a busy gigging schedule.
